The district and city of North Vancouver are situated in southwestern British Columbia, adjacent to Vancouver. The district was incorporated in 1891 and has a population of 85,935 (2016 census), while the city was separately incorporated in 1907 and has a population of 52,898 (2016 census), and both are situated on the north shore of Burrard Inlet.
The district extends from the Capilano River to beyond Deep Cove and surrounds the city, which centers on Lonsdale Avenue except at the waterfront. The elevations in North Vancouver range from sea level to 1,400 meters, with the scenic North Shore mountains, including Grouse and Seymour, serving as a picturesque backdrop.
