The urban center of the City of Langley covers an area of 10 square kilometers and is situated in the heart of the Lower Mainland economic region. With a population of about 29,000 people, Langley City provides its residents with all the necessary amenities of a major urban area such as excellent shopping and dining options, world-class educational and entertainment facilities, a wide range of recreational activities, and vibrant community events. In addition to these, Langley City also boasts over 346 acres of parkland.
Originally named “Innes Corners,” the settlement later became known as “Langley Prairie.” The section along (Old) Yale Road developed into a thriving business and service hub, attracting traders from across the region. As the area continued to grow, there was a need for higher levels of services, and on March 15, 1955, the City of Langley, a neighbor to the Township of Langley, was incorporated as a separate municipality.
